Beer & Music: Blood Youth / Handmade Festival 2019

Beer & Music: Blood Youth / Handmade Festival 2019

Ahead of Signature Brew bringing the beers to Handmade Festival 2019, we caught up with some of the most exciting bands on the lineup to have a quick chat about beer and music.

Undoubtedly one of the heaviest bands on Handmade's lineup are Yorkshire hardcore punk outfit, Blood Youth. We briefly caught up with frontman Kaya Tarsus to talk best bands on the lineup and creating a Diet Coke IPA… ew.

Who are your tips for other bands to catch at Handmade Festival and why?

Kaya Tarsus, vocals: "There are loads of really, really sick bands playing Handmade this year, its cool to see so many exciting UK bands on one lineup. People should definitely check out Parting Gift. We just finished an EU tour with them, they have just put out a sick new EP. Puppy are also one to watch, they're a really interesting band with great riffs. We're really looking forward to catching as many bands as we can."

If you were going to make a beer for your band, what kind of beer would it be and why?

Kaya: "I'd like to get really weird with it and try making something a bit different. One of the most important items on our rider is Diet Coke, we're all pretty obsessed with it. So I think everybody – in our band at least – would be really stoked on some sort of Diet Coke-infused IPA. Sounds gross but I'm pretty sure they mix coca-cola and beer in Germany, so there is actually a market for it... right?"

Handmade Festival takes place in Leicester on Sunday 5th May and features the likes of Metronomy, The Futureheads and more. Get tickets here.
