Independent Venue Week 2017

Independent Venue Week 2017 The Skints at the Hope & Ruin

As the dust settles on another incredible Independent Venue Week, we at Signature Brew are returning to normality as well as reflecting on a great celebration of live music and for us, good beer.

Firstly, we’d just like to thank Sybil, Chloe and the team for their year round effort that makes IVW such a roaring success. It’s their vision and tireless work that gives so many great venues the chance to shine.

From us a huge thank you must also be extended to The Skints, whose support and commitment to our collaboration beer Nice Time was second to none and as the staff here will testify the three shows they played in Brighton, Kingston and Southampton were incredible. A 3.9% Tropical Pale Ale, Nice Time has flown out and the positive feedback we’ve received has been overwhelming.

The Skints at The Fighting Cocks for Independent Venue Week 2017

2017 was our second year as beer partner for IVW and it enabled us to continue our mission of getting good beer into the hands of deserving music fans. Never before have so many pints of Signature Brew beer been consumed at live music venues in such a short period of time. More and more venues are realising the value that offering good beer hugely improves gig goers’ experience and boosts the venues chances of retaining customers long before and after each gig. That said, we’re a long way from saying mission accomplished.

I’m told it’s important not to ramble, so we’ll end this here. It’s just left for one more thank you, to all those involved in the wonderful celebration that is Independent Venue Week 2017.

Cheers, Tom

Independent Venue Week - The Hope & Ruin

With Independent Venue Week right around the corner we’ve decided to focus on a venue outside of London and head to a quirky little spot in Brighton named The Hope & Ruin.

Formally known as The Hope, The Hope & Ruin has reemerged with a new name, a new look and a much better music space. Serving up vegan food and craft beer downstairs and showcasing live gigs and music nights in their bigger space upstairs, The Hope & Ruin remains one of the key music venues in Brighton....

Independent Venue Week 2017 - Strongroom

Signature Brew Independent Venue Week 2017 Strongroom Bar and Kitchen

This week, in our second edition of blogs highlighting great independent venues in the run up to Independent Venue Week 2017 we’re focusing on a venue, bar and recording studios that means an awful lot to Signature Brew.

Strongroom Bar & Kitchen has been a cornerstone of the inimitable Shoreditch nightlife for as long as we can remember and has had a pretty key role in Signature Brews development too. In the pre-refurbed bar Tom, Sam and Dave held their first meeting to discuss their shared animosity towards the state of beer in music venues and there and then decided they should start a brewery. Soon after the first order came in, aptly from Strongrooms, and fast forward 5 years you can still find Roadie on the bar permanently.

The studios upstairs have been a staple in the world of music for 30 years, with legendary acts such as Radiohead, The Prodigy and even The Spice Girls recording there. Whilst big acts continue to roll off the tongue Strongrooms are also hugely passionate about supporting new music, with weekly live shows from brilliant fresh acts from all over the UK.

It’s been a pleasure watching the bar go from strength to strength over the years, in an increasingly cursory and perfunctory world it’s comforting knowing Strongrooms will maintain it’s quality with good music, good beer and good people at its heart.

Make sure to check out their events page and their Twitter for upcoming gigs, quizzes and open mic nights. And of course, the live acts for Independent Venue Week in January!

Independent Venue Week 2017 - The Black Heart

As you may know, we are the official beer partner for Independent Venue Week for the second year running. As Phil Selway from Radiohead once said, “Small venues are the lifeblood of British music.” and we couldn’t agree more, that’s why we’re so proud to be part of this important celebration for the music industry! Signature Brew are lucky enough to work with some of the best small venues in town, helping to bring forth our ethos. During the run up to IVW 2017 in January we will be taking a look into some of the awesome venues taking part. First up, a venue that’s always been good to Signature... The Black Heart!

Signature Brew Independent Venue Week 2017 The Black Heart

Nestled in a Camden backstreet The Black Heart plays host to some heavy bands, such as Bleeding Antlers, Pints and Raging Speedhorn, and at the same time have an incredible beer selection from all over the world. The Black Hearts’ steadfast approach to supporting up and coming bands and promoting small independent breweries is both commendable and important to the community.

You can find Signature Brew beers such as Stagediver and Studio Pilsner in the fridges and occasionally on draft. Overall it’s a pretty rad bar with great taste in beer and music! Head down to The Black Heart this evening to catch Al B. Damned from 7pm and make sure you keep an eye out for the live acts playing there for IVW 2017!
